Greenheart Necromancer is where you play as Echo. They’re a new necromancer in the city who just inherited their late grandmother’s apartment! There, you’ll find all sorts of dead plants and all sorts of people. Revive the plants, brew potions, and meet your neighbors.
The story of the game explores grief (naturally), coming into your own as a person, and the cycles of life. Fitting themes for a necromancer, I’d say.
One thing to note is that some people who have played the game have stated this isn’t a semi-idler at all, and that it requires a bit more hands-on activity than expected. So if you were hoping for something to just have in the background while you work on other things, then maybe this one’s not the game to open. (If you’re not sure, then try out their demo before buying the game!)
From the trailer, it seems that they have both 2D and 3D art available. 3D for everything around you, and 2D portraits of the characters you come across, as well as the almost comic-like snippets they use as a storytelling device. I’ll say the blend of that works out well for this game!
Also, what a concept: a necromancer for plants! I wonder how that ties in with their grandmother? I mean, usually it would be people that a necromancer would be bringing back, right? Are there witch laws in this game? Do people know Echo’s a witch? So many questions. I’m particularly interested in seeing what combinations of spells and potions are available. The collector in me craves a checklist.
One last thing to note is the content warning on their Steam page. Echo’s journey features themes of death, loss, grief, and social anxiety, as well. They are inevitable.
The game is available on Steam for about 6-8 USD, give or take. So whether you have a green thumb IRL or not, it doesn’t matter. In Greenhearth Necromancer, you are that witch— yeah, definitely get this game if you’re a frustrated plant enthusiast.
